Bibliography

By immersing myself into the archives of the Briscoe Center of American History and the Benson Latin American collection, I learned about the history of my family as well as that of my countrymen. Saltillo was first colonized by the Basque families who later founded Monterrey and cities, towns and villas in modern Tamaulipas, Chihuahua and Texas. The fierce conditions that the colonizers endured and the way they confronted the hardships of the frontier formed a different traditions and way of life than the rest of the Spanish colonies. These territories, now autonomous states, share a history of struggle and strife but they also share bestow a fierce and deep passion for liberty.
